Dewsbury

13 Miles & 12 locks

7 Hours Cruising including Return Trip.

Travel upstream, passed Broadcut and continue along the canal to Horbury Bridge. Just after is the figure of three locks which despite their name is actually only two locks. From here continue on along the canal and at the junction below Thornhill locks, take the right turn and follow the canal into Dewsbury & Saville Town Basin where there are visitor moorings. With a long stretch of canal and several manual locks this is an ideal trip for those looking to learn how to steer the boat and how to operate locks.

Castleford

15 Miles & 8 locks

7 1/2 Hours Cruising including Return Trip.

Head downstream passing Stanley ferry and its aqueducts and continue to Birkwood lock a little further on. All the locks on this canal are electric and are operated through the push of a button. From here, continue along the canal passing the outskirts of Altofts to Woodnook lock where the canal rejoins the river. Continue along the river and at the junction, continue straight ahead to leave the canal and enter Castleford Cut where there are facilities and visitor moorings. An ideal trip for younger groups such as beavers and cubs as it provides an opportunity to learn how locks work without having to manually open the gates & sluices etc.
